2. Disk Stack Centrifuges

Peeler centrifuges are a specialized type of centrifuge. They have a perforated bowl that rotates at high speed. The mixture is fed into the bowl, and the centrifugal force causes the liquid to pass through the perforations, while the solids are retained in the bowl.

When the dewatering process is complete, a peeler knife is used to remove the solid cake from the bowl. This makes them suitable for applications where a dry solid cake is required. For example, in the sugar industry, peeler centrifuges are used to separate the sugar crystals from the molasses.

Peeler centrifuges are relatively complex in design and require careful operation. The peeler knife needs to be adjusted properly to ensure efficient removal of the solid cake. Also, they are not suitable for all types of materials, especially those that are sticky or have a high tendency to form a hard cake.

Which Type is Right for You?

So, how do you choose the right dewatering centrifuge for your needs? Well, it depends on a few factors. First, you need to consider the characteristics of the material you’re dealing with. If you have a high – solids content or a very viscous material, a solid – bowl scroll centrifuge or a decanter centrifuge might be a good choice. If you’re dealing with fine particles and need a high degree of clarification, a disk stack centrifuge or a tubular bowl centrifuge could be the way to go.

The volume of the material you need to process is also important. If you have a large – scale operation, a decanter centrifuge or a solid – bowl scroll centrifuge with continuous operation capabilities would be ideal. For smaller – scale operations or where space is limited, a disk stack centrifuge or a tubular bowl centrifuge might be more suitable.

And of course, your budget plays a role. Some centrifuges are more expensive to purchase and maintain than others. You need to balance the cost with the performance and the requirements of your operation.
